How to Get an AI or Machine Learning Internship in Pakistan (2026 Guide)

The skills recruiters actually check, the three portfolio projects that get replies, where AI internships in Pakistan are posted, a cold-message template, and the interview questions to prepare for.

Start your project

Short answer: learn Python, core machine learning and one specialty well; build two or three projects that are deployed and documented on GitHub; make your LinkedIn match; then apply directly to AI companies and software houses with a short, specific message instead of relying only on job boards.

1. The skills recruiters actually check

  • Python you can write without a tutorial: functions, classes, virtual environments and Git.
  • Data handling: NumPy, pandas, basic SQL and plotting.
  • Core ML: train/validation/test splits, overfitting, metrics (precision, recall, F1, ROC-AUC) and scikit-learn pipelines.
  • Deep learning: PyTorch or TensorFlow, with CNNs and transformers at a "can fine-tune and debug" level.
  • One specialty: computer vision, NLP and LLMs, or data science and forecasting. Go deep in one rather than shallow in all.
  • LLM apps: prompting, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, vector databases and evaluating outputs. In 2026 almost every AI team asks about these.
  • Shipping basics: a FastAPI endpoint, Docker and a simple front end (Streamlit, Gradio or React).

University-level linear algebra, probability and calculus is enough for most internship interviews.

2. A portfolio that gets replies

Three finished projects beat thirty notebooks:

  1. One end-to-end ML project: your own data collection, a model, an honest evaluation and a deployed demo.
  2. One LLM or RAG app, for example a chatbot that answers from a set of PDFs and cites its sources.
  3. One project in your specialty that solves a local problem: Urdu NLP, Pakistani number plates, crop disease, smog forecasting. Need ideas? See 40 AI final year project ideas.

For each one: a README with the problem, a results table, screenshots and a live link (Hugging Face Spaces is free), a 60-second demo video, and a clean commit history.

3. Make your profiles match

  • GitHub: pin your three projects and add a profile README.
  • LinkedIn: a headline such as "AI/ML student · Computer Vision · PyTorch · Open to internships", and a short post with a demo video for each project.
  • Kaggle (optional): a competition notebook or two shows you can handle messy data.
  • CV: one page, projects first, with numbers (accuracy, latency, users).

4. Where AI internships in Pakistan are posted

  • LinkedIn Jobs: filter for internships in Pakistan or your city (Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi), and search posts for "AI internship".
  • Rozee.pk and the careers pages of software houses and AI companies.
  • University career offices and job fairs, and your department's alumni groups.
  • Tech communities such as Google Developer Groups (GDG) chapters and campus developer clubs.
  • Remote internships with international startups, posted on LinkedIn and Wellfound.
  • Direct outreach: many smaller AI companies take interns without posting a job.

5. A cold message that works

Subject: AI internship, computer vision (PyTorch), available from [month]

Hi [Name], I'm a [year] BS AI student at [university]. I built [project], [one-line result, e.g. "it reads Pakistani number plates at 94% accuracy on 2,000 test images"]. Demo: [link]. I'd like to contribute to [something specific the company does]. I'm available [full-time / part-time] from [date]. GitHub: [link]. Could we talk for 10 minutes this week?

Keep it under 120 words, personalise the second line for each company, and follow up once after a week.

6. Interview questions to prepare for

  • Explain bias and variance. How would you detect overfitting?
  • Precision or recall: when would you prefer each?
  • Walk through one of your projects: the data, the model choice, what failed and what you'd change.
  • How does attention in a transformer work, in plain words?
  • How would you build a chatbot that answers only from company documents?
  • A coding task, usually pandas data cleaning or a simple algorithm in Python.
  • How would you deploy this model and monitor it after launch?

7. Red flags

  • An "internship" that charges a fee but is really a set of recorded videos. A paid training programme is fine when it is honest about being training; check what is included and whether past learners did real project work.
  • No offer letter, unclear hours, or client delivery work with no mentorship.
  • A large unpaid "test task" that looks like real client work.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a degree to get an AI internship in Pakistan?

Most AI internships are offered to students in, or recent graduates of, BS Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI or Data Science programmes. At smaller AI companies a strong, deployed portfolio often matters more than your CGPA.

Are AI internships in Pakistan paid?

Many are, especially at software houses and AI companies, with stipends that vary by company and city; some are unpaid. Get the stipend, hours and duration in writing before you start.

What should an AI internship portfolio include?

Two or three deployed projects with READMEs, results and demo links: one end-to-end machine learning project, one LLM or RAG app, and one project in your specialty that solves a local problem.

When should I apply for an AI internship?

Start applying six to eight weeks before your semester break. Smaller AI companies hire year-round, often without posting a job, so a direct, specific message can work at any time.

Does Nexariza AI offer internships?

Yes. Top learners in the Nexariza Learning Hub are offered internships on live Nexariza projects with mentorship from our engineers, and open roles are listed at nexariza.com/jobs.
