- What is AI search readiness?
- It is how easily AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google’s AI answers can reach, read and cite your website. It depends on whether your robots.txt lets their crawlers in, whether your content is in the HTML rather than only rendered by JavaScript, and whether structured data and an llms.txt file describe your business clearly.
- Should I block GPTBot and other AI crawlers?
- There are two kinds. Search and answer crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot) fetch pages so an assistant can cite you; blocking them keeps you out of AI answers. Training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, CCBot) collect data for training models; blocking them is a reasonable choice and does not stop citations.
- What is llms.txt?
- A plain-text file at /llms.txt that summarises what your business does and links your most important pages, written for AI assistants. It is a young convention, but it costs little and gives assistants an accurate, quotable description of you.
- Why does content need to be readable without JavaScript?
- Many AI crawlers download the HTML and do not run JavaScript. If your site only shows its text after scripts run, as many single-page apps do, those crawlers see an almost empty page. Server-side rendering or prerendering fixes this.
- Does this checker store my website or data?
- No. It fetches the public page you enter plus its robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt, scores them and shows the result. Identical checks are cached for 15 minutes to keep the tool fast; nothing is saved to a database.
